Ninja Turtle Michelangelo
By: Ryan Price Cowabunga Dude!!!! Chapter 4: The Self and Interaction
Self- individuals conscious, reflective experience of a personal identity separate and distinct from other individuals (p.104)
Michelangelo is not your normal turtle by any means this turtle is a highly skilled ninja that fights crime with his brothers! The term self fits Michelangelo well because though he is not the most skilled nor the toughest of the turtles he is know for his personality, being funny and his love for pizza. Each of the turtles have a special weapon that they were trained to use and Michelangelo’s weapon are nun chucks there isn’t anyone around who can use them better. Him and his brothers are some of the best super hero’s out there looking to keep there town safe from shedder and any other bad guy who is looking for trouble.
Chapter 6 –deviance Outsiders- labeled deviance and subsequently segregated from normal society (p.163)
An outsider defines Mikey and his brothers very well because to normal society that’s just what they are viewed as outsiders. I mean how can you be considered normal if you’re a 6’6 talking turtle with a huge rat for a father. Even though the world may not understand them the turtles do not let that them from saving people and making the city a better place. Mikey and his band of brothers keep out of site from people in the real world knowing that people might not accept them and maybe even fear them because people are scared of things that they cannot understand. In away Mikey is an outsider to his brothers because they do not fully understand him and some of the things he does would not be considered normal like the fact that his people skills are good even though they do not see many people.
Chapter – 8 race and ethnicity as lived experience
Individual discrimination- Discrimination carried out by one person against another (p.223)
The term individual discrimination relates shredder which is one of the turtles biggest rivals and he is always out to destroy them and he hates them. Shredder shows how much he dislikes the turtles in many ways one of them would be the fact that he says it all the time. Shredder also shows it because he is sending his ninjas after Mikey and his brothers to find them and kill them. Shredder dislikes most of all because of the turtles father splinter which is weird because at one point in life they were best friends. Then shredder got jealous of splinter and wanted to have the life that splinter had so he tried to destroy him but it didn’t work and when shredder found out he vowed the rest of his life to find the turtles and splinter and kill them.
Chapter 10- The Macro-Micro link in social institutions
Homeschooling- the education of children by their parents at home (p.300)
Homeschooling would go with the turtles because their dad splinter has taught them everything he knows and has schooled them in the safety of the sewers. Splinter wanted to teach them things that would prepare them for the real world. Its kind of funny when you think about it a big rat teaching a bunch of big turtles how to read, write and do karate. The way that Mikey acts you wouldn’t know that he had any schooling at all because he is such an air head and always so goofy.
Chapter 6- Deviance
Rebels- individuals who reject society’s approved goals and means and instead create and work toward their own goals using means. (p.157)
Rebels describes mikey well because him and his brothers fight against bad guys and make the world good in their own way. They are the good type of rebels, which you do not see often, and saving people makes them feel complete. Their main goal is to keep the city safe even though it is hard for them to stay on task at times because they are only teenagers and they just want to have fun, lucky for the people in their city beating up bad guys is fun. It took their father awhile to let them out the house because he wanted to make sure they were ready took take on what was ahead.
